Races will start at 6:00 pm.
Registration and Start/Finish will be at the warming hut at the Tie City parking lot of Happy Jack. To get to Tie City, take I-80 to exit 323. Turn towards the rest area (left if coming from Laramie, right if from Cheyenne) and then left onto 210. The trailhead is about a mile down the road on the right. Here's a map
Men's divisions:
Beginner - Short, less-technical routes; non-competitive. Don't feel comfortable in bike shorts? This is for you.
Intermediate - Just like it sounds; not beginner, but not super fast either.
Advanced - Fairly competitive, but not ready for the big leagues.
Open - eat-your-competitors'-children competitive.
Women's divisions:
Beginner - Short, less-technical routes; non-competitive. Don't feel comfortable in bike shorts? This is for you.
Intermediate/Advanced - non-competitive/sort-of-competitive.
Open - eat-your-competitors'-children competitive.
Juniors:
Under 15 boys and girls - For kids looking to get started racing. Most races will be the same course as the Beginners.
We encourage having a more experienced "buddy rider" for participants who are not comfortable being out on the course alone or for first time racers. More experienced
and faster juniors are of course welcome race in the appropriate Men's or Women's category
Very young kids - Please come talk to us at registration and we will work with you to come up with a suitable route to ride.
We ask that an adult ride with younger racers due to the traffic on the courses during the races and the confusion of course markings.
Race day registration will be between 5:00 and 5:55 in the warming hut at the start/finish. Five bucks a race.
Leave it at home. If you bring one, we might charge you extra.
Courses will change each week, with lengths dependant on category. Beginners will do 3-5 miles. Intermediate/Advanced riders 8-15 miles, while Open racers should expect 12-18 miles. Course are well marked with red and/or yellow arrows at each intersection. We will try to post courses about a week in advance. Click on a race date on the left for more info. about each race.
We won't hesitate to cancel a race if we don't feel the trail conditions are good enough. We ride up there too, and have no intention of ruining the trails for the sake of the Series. If we do have to cancel a race, we will do our best to post it by 2pm on race day.
NWS point forecast for the races. Your safety on the race course is your responsibility. We can't control hazards on the trail and we certainly don't control the weather. If weather conditions necessitate it, we will stop the race, however you may be a long way from shelter when a storm rolls in. Please use your own judgement as to whether or not you should be out there.
Riders will be assigned a number at their first race. Please use the same number throughout the season. Sorry, no custom number plates this year. The races are getting big enough that the timers need to be able to quickly and easily read numbers.
The Medicine Bow National Forest charges a $5 daily parking fee at the race trailhead. You can also get an annual pass at the Forest Service office in Laramie for $30.
In order to properly recognize their supreme dominance over Laramie mountain biking, the current points leader in each category will have to carry, on their bike, some small trinket until the next race. Any reported sightings of the leader between races without it will result in a ten point deduction.
If you're deemed a sandbagger (decided entirely by the judges) you'll be moved up a category. No whining about it, either.
Cycling can be dangerous. Really dangerous. Especially mountain biking. Because of this, racers must wear a helmet and sign a waiver.
